Road Closures for Omaha Triathlon on July 8, 2018

On Sunday, July 8, 450 triathletes from all over the United States – including many participants from Nebraska – will be participating in the 9th Annual Omaha Triathlon. The race starts at the Prairie Queen Recreation Area boat ramp, located off 132nd street on the northwest section of the lake. After completing the swim portion, participants will start the bike portion of the event and then finish with a run around the north loop of the Prairie Queen Recreation Area.

We’ve worked closely with the City of Papillion, Sarpy County, City of La Vista, and Werner Park staff to create an event that showcases the Sarpy County area. The
detour map to the right will help you determine when participants will be in your area. We are asking that all residents and businesses use this information to help avoid and minimize any impact. Please note that both police and barricades are placed along the course to assure the safety of participants and the public. Police will make every effort to move any vehicles in and out of businesses and residential neighborhoods as the course allows and whenever possible.

Lincoln Road will be closed to vehicle traffic from 5:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. (or as soon as the last participant has completed the bike portion). Residents of North Shore may use Cornhusker Road as the best option to avoid any issues. Police will direct traffic at the intersection of 126th Street and Lincoln. You may need to wait for a gap in participants to proceed in or out of the neighborhood. Access to and from Highway 370 will not be impacted.

The bike course occurs on the following road sections:

  • Lincoln Road to 114th Street
  • 114th Street north to Giles Road
  • Giles Road East to Portal Road
  • Portal Road to South 96th Street
  • South 96th Street to West Lincoln Road
  • West Lincoln Road to Wittmus Drive/108th Street
  • Cumberland Drive to 114th Street
  • 114th Street north to Lincoln Road

We would love for you to embrace this event and cheer on the participants – many of whom are racing a triathlon for the first time! We have over 30 collegiate participants from major universities, along with participants as young as 15 and participants well into their 70s. Please feel free to also cheer our participants at the finish line inside Werner Park – it’s free to enter! If you are interested in volunteering email Beth at beth@raceomaha.com.
